Our Mission
We are a registered 501(c)(3) animal welfare organization run by a small group of volunteers based in southeastern Massachusetts that operates in and around CT, MA, NH and RI. We are dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of captive-bred axolotl salamanders (Ambystoma mexicanum). To date, LibertyLand has helped rehabilitate and re-home more than 500 axolotls in need, and that number only continues to grow.
At LibertyLand, we’re passionate about helping to educate the public about proper axolotl care. We work to combat the misconception that these animals are difficult to keep, and offer advice on how to help keep them as healthy and happy as possible in the home aquarium.

What we do
-
Have one of our axolotl experts speak at your class, fish club, reptile expo, herp society, or other community group, school or organization about axolotls, including proper care and maintenance.
-
Our team evaluates each axolotl for possible medical issues, temperament and special needs upon arrival and throughout a two-week intake period.
This evaluation allows us to provide each axolotl's new family with all of the information they will need to keep them happy and healthy.
-
Each adoption applicant is required to complete a detailed application, provide proof of a cycled tank and/or tubbing knowledge and experience, and to have emergency medical supplies and essentials on hand prior to bringing home their new axie.
-
We know that surrendering can be difficult. That's why our team is here to walk you through the process, step-by-step.
Our team will ensure that LLA has the necessary space and expertise to care for your surrender(s), and make sure each axolotl is in the best health possible before moving to their new forever home.
To surrender, please reach out to our team on Facebook and complete our Surrender Form, available here:
